Why Making New Traditions With Your Family Matters
What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘tradition’? Often we think of cultural and religious practices, big holidays, food, or something that has been done for years and years. There are hundreds of beautiful traditions that go along with these times in life, but I encourage you to look beyond those “always on your calendar” days and pencil in something for the everyday. Here’s my hot take on creating NEW traditions.
Why Making New Traditions With Your Family Matters
IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE MAJOR
When my daughters were young I worked near a public library. We started a fun tradition of going there each Saturday to discover new books and simply spend time together. Today, this has become a cherished and special tradition that emerged out of our everyday life. My girls have an appreciation for books and libraries that makes me beam and we’ve been fortunate to explore libraries all over the place!
The memories that have sprouted from our library tradition are so beautiful, and my favorite part about all of this? It was something many would consider mundane - after all, it’s not uncommon for parents to bring their kids to a library - that we made all our own and extra special.
MAKE SOMETHING SIMPLE, SPECIAL
So, want to know my advice on how to start making traditions in your everyday life? Find something simple and make it special. Maybe your family likes board games - put a weekly game night on the family calendar! Or perhaps you’re a music enthusiast; start playing name that tune on road trips by humming your favorite songs. A tradition doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming, just meaningful.
